Dragon Quest I II III HD-2D Remake

The HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest III popped up during today’s Nintendo Direct with the latest news from Square Enix, and it was also revealed that Dragon Quest I & II are getting the same treatment.

This release has taken a turn since when it was first announced. Originally, Square Enix unveiled the game in 2021, and that was only for an HD-2D version of Dragon Quest III. There was never any thought that the first two titles in the series would be getting the same treatment, though fans have more recently speculated that they could be a part of the package. The move makes sense as Dragon Quest I-III are part of the same story.

Thanks to Square Enix, we have the following details:

Fantasian

Fantasian, the well-received RPG from Mistwalker, has just been announced for release on Switch as Fantasian Neo Dimension. Square Enix will be publishing in Winter 2024.

Fantasian has been locked to Apple Arcade since 2021. The game was written and produced by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy. Nobuo Uematsu, known for his work on Final Fantasy as well, composed the soundtrack. As for Mistwalker, the studio previously worked on The Last Story for Wii, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, and more.

SaGa Emerald Beyond update

Square Enix issued a new update for SaGa Emerald Beyond, and we have the full patch notes.

The patch includes some smaller additions / quality of life improvements. On top of that, there are a few adjustments and bug fixes.

Here’s the full rundown:

Final Fantasy XIV Switch 2

Could Final Fantasy XIV end up on Switch 2? Naoki Yoshida isn’t ruling out the possibility, at least.

Yoshida was posed that question during an interview with Easy Allies. In his response, he mentioned wanting the game to be played on as many devices as possible. On top of that, Square Enix “would love to have our title available on the Nintendo platform”.

SaGa Emerald Beyond physical

If you’ve been holding out for a physical version of SaGa Emerald Beyond, we’re happy to report that you’ll soon be happy to add a copy to a collection.

You may remember that Square Enix’s RPG was digital-only in North America and Europe. However, a new physical release is coming to Asia, and it fully supports English. It’s true that Japan received a boxed copy earlier this year, but it only included Japanese.

Octopath Traveler II update 1.1.0

As a surprise to fans, Square Enix just released a new version 1.1.0 update for Octopath Traveler II.

The main draw of the update is an extra battle mode. Here players can “take on formidable enemies, including the heroes of the first Octopath Traveler”.

Visions of Mana Switch 2

Is Visions of Mana coming to Switch 2? That’s what the latest speculation would have you believing.

Well-known leaker Midori recently shared on social media that news about Visions of Mana is coming soon. Don’t expect to hear an announcement regarding the game on the next Nintendo system, but it’s claimed that this will be happening at some point.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake Switch

Square Enix finally provided an update on its Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake today, and made it official that the game is coming to Switch. The update comes as the series celebrates its latest anniversary.

Fans have wondering about the status of the Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake since its announcement three years ago. Square Enix unveiled the project during a presentation that announced other games for the franchise as well. However, it’s more or less been missing in action since then.

Square Enix multiplatform strategy

Square Enix today announced a new business strategy, which includes a shift in its releases on supported devices. As part of that change, it seems that the company will be pursuing Nintendo support more aggressively. This could include Switch, but certainly the next console as well.

Square Enix says it will “pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs.” The company also mentioned: “Especially, in regards to major franchises and AAA titles including catalog titles, it will build an environment where more customers can enjoy our titles.”

The Lara Croft Collection physical

The Lara Croft Collection has been on Switch as an eShop download, but a physical release has now been revealed as well. Limited Run Games is in charge of production.

The Lara Croft Collection will be available as part of the game itself as well as a collector’s edition. The latter features premium art cards, an official soundtrack, and an acrylic standee, all in a throwback trapezoid box.
